Hi!!!
My name is Nichole DePaul, and I am your child’s instructor in chemistry at
Ross S. Sterling High School. I am looking forward to a successful year,
and I know that the students will receive the most professional, positive
learning environment that can be given within the science classroom.
I have a bachelor’s of science in chemistry from
Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois and a master’s of arts in
teaching of science at the secondary level at Western Governors University in
Salt Lake City, Utah. My thesis/capstone was titled “Curriculum Alignment
Between Mathematics and Science”. It explored the use of curriculum
alignment, vertically and horizontally, between the mathematics and science
courses. My reason for the exploration was on the basis that mathematics
and science must work together for students to understand the concepts and
equations that are used within the classrooms. I have started my
doctorate in education in K12 Studies—Science at Capella University in
Minneapolis, Minnesota through an online program while maintaining my classroom
at Sterling High School and will graduate in June 2012. My dissertation
research will be the use of multiple intelligences and technology integration
in the secondary science classroom. While working on my doctorate, I will
participate in a program sponsored by Illinois State University and Flinn to
complete graduate work in chemistry and obtain a master’s of science in
chemistry from Illinois State University in the future. This will allow me to
teach dual enrollment courses for GCCISD and Lee College.
I taught at Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida
from March 2005 to June 2008. I have taught AP Chemistry, Chemistry I Honors,
APEX Chemistry I Honors (OHS), and Chemistry I. I have been an instructor at
Lee College for the EnergyVenture Camp in Baytown, Texas, that is sponsored by
ExxonMobile, and I am also an instructor at Rice University and Spring ISD for
Pre-AP Chemistry. I am going to into my third year at RSS and my sixth year of
teaching Pre-AP Chemistry at the secondary level in high school
In my ‘other’ life, I was a professional bowler for
several years while working in the bowling industry for the United States Bowling
Congress, Kegel,
and Professional Bowlers
Association. As a chemist and engineer, I was instrumental in
the design and implementation for the Sport Bowling program, as well as, the
design and implementation of lane machine technology at Kegel. While I am
no longer working for the bowling industry, I am still an active participate in
many aspects of the sport that require travel around the city, state, and
country for major city, state, national, and international bowling tournaments.
Currently, I maintain a 200+ average, have one national title, one state title,
several city and local titles, and many more accomplishments. Bowling is
a large part of my life, and typically, you will find me on the lanes in
between teaching and other obligations.
My mission and objectives are simple: have an
open door policy to allow all students to learn in their learning styles while
still teaching the curriculum. I want my students to love chemistry as
much as I do, and it is important for me, as their teacher, to provide a safe
and engaging learning environment while keeping the communication open between
the parents, students, faculty, administration, and guidance counselors at
Sterling High School. Never hesitate to contact me for any questions,
concerns, issues, or discussion. I am always available for my parents!!!!
I am looking forward to an exciting school year
full of chemistry with the explorations in experiments, demonstrations, and
inquiry. It will be fun and enjoyable for all that are involved in my
classroom. To end with an excellent quote from me to you:
What
in the world ISN’T chemistry?
